Homemade masks are the best way to nourish the skin. You can make them using only natural ingredients and they’re always fresh. Today we have a recipe for an amazing four-ingredient mask which helps lighten and nourish the skin.
It’s very simple to whip up and you need ingredients most people already have at home. To make it you will need a tomato, a potato, some yogurt, and honey. All three ingredients have a long history of skin care and mixing them will create a mask you will want to use time and time again.
Why these ingredients?
Tomatoes are high in vitamin C, vitamin A, and biotin. The star, however, is lycopene, which has amazing antioxidant properties. It helps build skin tissue and protect skin cells. In addition, tomatoes are acidic, giving them exfoliating properties for removing dead skin cells and giving the skin a healthy glow. Another benefit of exfoliating is that it makes your pores smaller, which in turn gives the impression of a younger skin.
Combined with potatoes, they make a potent treatment for acne and can help remove scars from earlier outbreaks. Both have natural bleaching properties, good for eliminating dark spots and lightening the skin.
Potatoes have been a source of nourishment long before Europeans started cultivating them. The Incas raised the crop in Peru as early as 8000 and 5000 BC. When used in a face mask, it imbues the face mask with some amazing properties.
Rich in vitamin C, potatoes have been used for centuries as a quick fix for dark circles under the eyes. It has bleaching properties that can be used to treat dark spots on the skin too. In addition to this, potatoes also contain potassium, calcium, magnesium and vitamin B6, all with great skin care properties. The phytonutrients are also very beneficial since they help exfoliate the skin, treat wrinkles and provide anti-aging benefits.
The honey in this mask acts as a moisture attractant. It is an ancient skincare secret, used to maintain soft and supple skin. It is best known for it’s antibacterial and antifungal properties. This helps eliminates any bacteria and prevent acne outbreaks. Honey is also mildly acidic, which just like with the tomato, helps remove dead skin cells and makes the skin lighter and clearer.
It’s natural that over time fine lines and wrinkles form on the face. Yogurt is a natural way to treat them, adding an anti-aging effect to a face mask. It contains lactic acid and as we’ve mentioned, acids help dissolve dead skin cells and tighten pores.
Combining these ingredients in a mask will not only help you get lighter skin, it will also give a nice nutrient booster and help fight acne.
